This week has gotten away from me. I have a post waiting in the wings, but I need help from Keith to finish it so that one will have to wait. So I decided to explore a little more of that little wedding we mentioned a few weeks ago. Today, Keith and I have been married 4 weeks (and in 2 days-a month!) So I thought I would share something we did to make the reception more "us." I already posted about the centerpieces, but here is a small thing we added to the centerpieces to make them really Jenn and Keith. 

We added trivia cards!!!! This photo (taken by my photographer) shows the small trivia cards. I went through the internet and pulled my favorite trivia questions together. I had several different categories, including a Jenn & Keith one. Then we put three to a business card, ran them through out printer, divided them and there you go! It took me a longggg time to find these trivia questions, so I thought I would just put a sample of them on here, in case anyone else wants to do them. We did get a lot of GREAT feedback about them.

Science- What is the most abundant element in the universe? Hydrogen

Geography-What is the capital of Maine? Augusta
 

Movies- What government agency did Walter Peck represent when he order the Ghostbusters to shut off their laser protection grid? EPA

States- Tortilla chips and salsa are the official state snack of what state? Texas

Music- What is a gob stick to a jazz man? Clarinet


Sports- What MLB team was first to have cheerleaders? Florida Marlins

So, there you have it! Just a few to get your creativity flowing.

Back with some burlap

I apologize for the lack of posts from me over the last two weeks, however I have been pretty busy. This happened:

I will post more with the bits and pieces later, and about our awesome honeymoon in Disneyworld, that was so much fun I never wanted to leave and tried to convince Keith and my best friend to become costumed characters down there with me so we could stay there forever.

Anyway, when I got married, I wanted to add some Jenn details (as seen in my last wedding post). So Keith and I found some awesome cobalt blue burlap at Hobby Lobby. One of our colors was that exact blue! So I bought 10 yards of it, with a gift card I received, and we decided to wait to figure out what to do with it. (Note, this is NOT the best course of action, however it was our only real impulse buy for the wedding) We decided to use the burlap under our vases and table numbers at the reception. Then came the problem of how to cut it with the least amount of frayed ends.

So here is a tutorial on how to cut burlap that worked for us: 

 Get your burlap and a nice, sharp pair of scissors. My mom used to be a seamstress, these are her babies. Usually, use a cutting board, however I was too busy watching tv while doing this, so I did it on the floor.

 First step, find a string at the measure you want it. Mine were about 16 inches wide. Pull on that single string with even force, but nothing too hard or you will break the string in half.

Keep going, you might need to use your other hand to guide the string out. But at the end, you want a void, where the string was and that needs to go all the way through. Do you see the void where I removed the string? It should look like that.

 Then cut the burlap in the void where the string is no longer. MAKE SURE you only cut in that line or you will get more fray then you want.

There you have it a clean cut. It wasn't hard, just time consuming when you have to do 19.

And here is the finished product! I think they turned out pretty darn nice. :)

Bits and Pieces: Wedding

I know, I have been MIA lately, I don't have a good reason. So I am posting today with all of the projects I have done this morning alone! There is no how-to, just some inspiration for all you soon-to-be brides out there. These are just some of the D.I.Y. aspects of my upcoming wedding.

 Instead of big table numbers, I found this fun laser cut frames from the craft store and decided to paint them in my colors. I have to do 22 of these bad boys. (My paint area is getting really messy!)

 To bring in my other color in the centerpieces, I went to the craft store and picked up some simple green scrapbook paper. I used my whole punch to cut out hearts.I am going to sprinkle some of these on each table.

 So many hearts!

 I also made a few pair of earrings. These are mine, however the camera took a bad photo of them. They are vibrant blue in real life. 

This is the top of the earrings I made as a gift. I wanted to keep the rest a surprise, but I love the cap. Beautiful. 

Lastly, I am plugging away at Thanks Yous for the Welcome Bag at the hotel. I got some Michigan Post Cards (well, okay, K's parents bought them for me) and wrote a cute note on each one. Each one says "We're so glad you came all this way, to be part of our special day!"

Well, I hope this post might inspire those getting married soon. Personally, I can't wait until the whole finish product is together! :)
